Brighter Together (2022)
Brighter Together is an installation which utilizes the traditional Korean paper making process of Joomchi which historically was used to make various everyday items (including wearables) accessible to people of all social and economic standings. Through the process where water is added and the specific paper is agitated over hours of carefully squishing and squeezing, small holes begin to develop in the worked sheet and come to display a pattern on the paper reminiscent of a lace. Once dried out, each sheet peppered with tiny holes was stitched together in such a way that when the form was placed over the colored light it would project out softer and selective light which would provide interesting visuals and provide a sense of general relaxation to all of those with and without disabilities to experience together.
The sculptural sensory light Brighter Together continues to embrace people as they are while modifying aspects of their environment rather than the individual in order to welcome a wider audience. Installed in a larger space, Brighter Together is able to welcome more than one person at a time to create a shared experience and also allow space to spread out and interact as much as is comfortable per person.
